Zombie Zone in Conil: the end of the world comes to our streets on 3 October

If you’ve been reading me for a while, you’ll know I usually announce two things: the arrival of good weather and the bluefin tuna season. This time it’s something very different, and it’s an initiative I think is brilliant: Conil Town Council has organised a Zombie Zone. On Saturday 3 October 2026, several streets in town will become the setting for a live-action horror game lasting four hours.

It’s not the first time: the Town Council has been bringing this event to Conil for several years now, and each edition comes back stronger. If you missed it last year, this is your chance to see it live.

And it’s not a WhatsApp group rumour: the Festivals Department themselves published it, and the provincial press picked it up (Diario de Cádiz, Portal de Cádiz…). As a local, I’ll tell you all about it: what it is, how it works, how to sign up and, as a bonus, why October is a great month to visit.

What is Zombie Zone and who organises it

The Festivals Department of Conil Town Council has brought Zombie Zone to town, a live-action game event by the studio World Real Games (the same ones who have been touring Spain for years with their Survival Zombie format). The premise is simple and spectacular: the world has succumbed to zombies and you are one of the last living people in the municipality.

For about four hours, the route through Conil’s streets becomes a race against the clock with actors, missions, challenges and, of course, the undead. The objective is unique: survive — in practice, find and enter the last safe haven before time runs out. Strategy, adrenaline and teamwork do the rest.

As the Councillor for Festivals, Lázaro Canto, put it: “we want to continue offering a variety of leisure and entertainment activities for all audiences. With Zombie Zone we propose a different experience, full of terror, excitement and adventure for all audiences”.

Essential information

Date: Saturday, 3 October 2026.
Duration: about four hours of live gameplay.
Location: streets of Conil de la Frontera (the exact meeting point is announced by the organisers).
Price: tickets from €9.90 depending on the category, with a special price for those registered as residents of Conil.
Registration: now open, via the official link shared by the Town Council: t.ly/GuoE9 (takes you to the official ticket sales platform).

One important detail: the organisers recommend checking in a couple of hours before the start, and the exact time is published in the game’s rules. For an event like this, it makes sense for it to start in the late afternoon, so confirm the exact time on the official website before planning your evening.

How to play (spoiler: dying is fun too)

The Zombie Zone mechanics, according to their official website, work like this: survivors must complete the route by solving missions and challenges as a team, with actors who will offer help, assign tasks… or make your life difficult. If a horde catches you, you’re not out: “die in style” and join the horde as a hunter. In other words, everyone keeps playing until the end.

It’s an immersive role-playing format: it’s much more fun if you get into your character and let the night carry you away, like in a movie. Your movie, in this case.

Show up with plenty of time on the day: the recommended check-in is a couple of hours before.

My advice: sign up soon. Places for these events tend to sell out in advance, and in October we have less tourism than in August, so it’ll be for the brave… and the locals.

Is it suitable for children?

The organisers present it as an all-family activity. That said, it’s live horror with scares, actors and night-time involved, so the recommended age will depend more on your kid than on the poster: if you all watch horror movies together at home, you’ll probably have a great time. Survivor tips (and local tips)

Comfortable closed shoes: it’s four hours of walking, running and dodging zombies around town. No beach sandals.
Layers: in October the afternoon is still pleasant, but it cools down at night. A light hoodie you can tie around your waist is the perfect balance.
Phone charged and on silent: for your team’s WhatsApp group and to take photos of your zombie debut.
Dinner in the old town afterwards: when it’s over, the whole town is at your feet (literally) and many bars are open. Refuelling with fried fish and a cold one is the perfect finishing touch, as my guide to tuna and local gastronomy explains.

Why October is a good month to visit

If you’re thinking of signing up from outside Conil, don’t hesitate too much: October is a sweet month here. The sea is still warm enough for swimming (for those who like fresh water, even more than in August), the town breathes easy, the light is postcard-perfect and accommodation is well-priced.

10 October — Espacios (music): Nacho Loring performs his album Espacios in full at the Casa de la Cultura - Teatro Municipal (Calle Laguna s/n), 8:30 PM. A 1h 15min show organised by the Andalusian Agency for Cultural Institutions and Conil Town Council.
23 October — Ruta del Retinto (gastronomy): 13th edition of this route celebrating retinta beef, a native breed with protected designation of origin. From 23 October to 2 November, bars and restaurants around town offer traditional and innovative dishes featuring this product. On the weekend of 24-25 October, the gastronomic showcase and cooking competition take place at the municipal tent in the plazas of Torre de Guzmán and Santa Catalina. Organised by Conil Town Council and the Young Restaurateurs Association.
